Online Charter Renewal Every Scouting unit must re-charter with the Boy Scouts of America annually. In our council, this charter renewal occurs in October. The charter renewal is done on-line in order to simplify and expedite this process. The online process will be available beginning on October 1, 2009. This charter renewal must be successfully completed and turned in to the Service Center, along with all fees, by November 25, 2009. Charter information turned in after that date may cause a unit to be unable to submit advancement reports at the beginning of 2010. A training presentation has been prepared to address some of the most frequent questions encountered during our previous experiences. We hope that this overview will help you as the Charter Renewal Processor to complete this important task with as few problems as possible. You must complete the training process before proceeding! NOTE: You must use Microsoft Internet Explorer browser to complete the on-line Charter Renewal and view the training. You can access the Internet with AOL, etc., but you must open the Internet Explorer browser to view the Web pages correctly. Netscape or other browsers will not work correctly. Step 1 (Required):Understanding the process and collecting key information before starting the charter renewal will save you time and headache. Please complete the following. - Print out the Charter Renewal Instruction Sheet. Refer to this sheet often.
- Print out a checklist the tasks you will need to complete. This will help ensure that nothing is missed. We have two versions of this process.
Checklist for Scouting Units Checklist for LDS-Sponsored Scouting Units - Complete the training module.
Step 2 (Optional but very useful):Additional training for anyone who wants to learn more about how Internet Rechartering works can take the interactive Internet Rechartering tutorial and view the online help by clicking below. We have also developed a document that explains the required leadership positions for any unit in order to renew a charter. Step 3 (Required):Once you have finished the training, and have collected all of your information, you can begin the Charter Renenal by clicking on the button below. Remember that you must complete this step for each unit your organizations sponsors. For many organizations, this means that you must submit a charter for your pack, your troop, your team and your crew. As you begin each charter, select 'First Time User' and create your password. Read this important notice concerning Social Security Numbers! Remember that this charter information will be updated in the BSA system effective January 1, 2010. If you have new youth or adults join your unit in 2009, you must submit those applications directly to the Scout Service Center before they will show up in Internet Advancement. Thank you in advance for your efforts from the volunteer leadership and staff of the Utah National Parks Council.
